Webflow vs WordPress at a glance
Both are good platforms, and the difference is who maintains the site and how much your team can change without a developer.
- Software: WordPress is free, open source under the GPLv2; Webflow is a paid site plan
- Editing: blocks or a page builder vs a visual editor on the live layout
- Updates: core, theme and plugin updates to manage vs handled by Webflow
- Security: patches, plugins and backups are yours vs hosting, SSL and backups included
- Hosting: chosen and paid for separately vs included in the site plan
- Ecommerce: WooCommerce vs native ecommerce, Foxy or a custom back end
- Best for: sites relying on particular plugins vs marketing teams who edit without a developer
Big Rocket has been a Webflow partner since March 2021 and is a Webflow agency and Premium Partner. We say so when WordPress fits better for your specific needs.
Which is easier for a marketing team to run?
Webflow is easier for a marketing team to run day to day, because publishing and SEO sit in one editor; WordPress needs a server and someone to set it up. The Webflow Editor allows teams to manage content without touching the underlying design or code. On the sites we build, marketing teams perform these regular tasks:
- Launching new pages using a component library.
- Managing CMS content directly in the Editor.
- Setting page titles and meta descriptions.
- Updating social images for different platforms.
- Managing 301 redirects on a page-by-page basis.
The CMS provides granular control over how content appears online. You can publish or unpublish individual items, publish several at once, or schedule items to go live at a specific date and time. You can also decide whether individual CMS items are indexed by search engines. Webflow provides limited seats for people who edit content or build pages with components, which are separate from full design seats.
Security, updates and maintenance
WordPress needs ongoing plugin, theme and core upkeep, while Webflow's hosting, security and backups are managed for you. According to Patchstack, 11,334 new vulnerabilities were found in the WordPress ecosystem in 2025. This was a 42% increase on 2024. Patchstack reports that 91% of those vulnerabilities were in plugins and 9% were in themes. Only 6 vulnerabilities were in WordPress core, and these were low priority. Patchstack also notes that 46% of WordPress vulnerabilities were not fixed in time for public disclosure.
WordPress.org advises that you should update WordPress to the latest version. Since WordPress 3.7, most sites apply minor and security updates automatically. However, major releases still require someone to click Update Now, and it is advised to back up the site first. One WordPress client of Big Rocket had trouble keeping plugins up to date. They struggled with the cost and complexity of plugins, as well as updates breaking the site. They wanted a more user-friendly option that kept functionality but relied less on developers.
We build custom solutions with Webflow as a user-friendly front end for the client, so the client does not need to worry about the functionality behind it. Webflow site plans include hosting on a global CDN, DDoS protection, two-factor authentication and automatic backups with one-click restore.
Which is better for SEO, speed and AI search?
Both platforms can rank in search results, but content and site structure matter more than the platform itself. Webflow has the main SEO controls built into its interface.
- Custom title tags and meta descriptions
- Alt text and Open Graph settings
- Canonical tags
- Auto-generated XML sitemap
- Robots.txt and llms.txt files
- Controls to allow or block search and AI crawlers
- Schema markup support
- 301 redirects
Site speed is handled through hosting. Webflow uses a global CDN that routes every visitor to the nearest server for faster page loads.
Our work shows how these technical setups perform in practice. Jetify, a Webflow site Big Rocket built and runs, gets 235,000+ website sessions a year. 93% of those sessions come from organic search, and the site has 92 keywords ranking in Google's top three positions. LuxuryTrainTickets.com, another Webflow site we built and run, made £1M+ in sales in its second year and makes £2.5M+ a year now. Most of that revenue comes from organic search.
For LuxuryTrainTickets.com, we implemented specific technical SEO elements. We use structured data on every pricing and journey page pulled from the CMS. Every train overview page includes FAQ markup. The site also uses author pages for its guides and an llms.txt file.
What does each one really cost?
WordPress software is free but hosting, upkeep and plugins cost money; Webflow charges one site plan that includes hosting.
- WordPress software: free to use
- WordPress hosting: Krystal from £7 a month before VAT, or £19 a month before VAT for its small-business Emerald plan
- Webflow Basic: $15 a month billed yearly, no CMS
- Webflow Premium: $25 a month billed yearly, adds the CMS
- Webflow Team: $2,500 a month on an annual contract
Webflow prices are in US dollars with tax added at checkout. UK businesses should allow for 20% VAT. The top site plan allows up to 20,000 CMS items and 40 CMS collections. All prices are as of October 2026. The cost of building the site is separate on both.
Plugins, integrations and ecommerce
WordPress wins on sheer number of plugins, while Webflow covers more out of the box and connects other tools for the rest.
WordPress.org lists over 77,000 free plugins. Webflow ecommerce plans are:
- Standard: $29 a month billed yearly
- Plus: $74 a month billed yearly
- Advanced: $212 a month billed yearly
Payments run through Stripe or PayPal. We use Webflow as a user-friendly front end for custom work so the client does not need to worry about functionality behind it. This approach allows teams to manage the site without touching code.
We run our own business, LuxuryTrainTickets.com, on Webflow. We use Foxy, Stripe, Cloudflare and Mailchimp for bookings, payments and email.
Which should you choose, and how do you switch?
Choose by who will run the site.
Choose Webflow if:
- Your marketing team owns the website and wants to edit it.
- You want hosting, speed and security handled.
- Search and AI results affect your growth.
- Your content changes weekly.
Choose WordPress or another platform if:
- You sell thousands of products with complex variants.
- Your developers need to manage server code.
- Most of your product is behind a login.
- You only need a one-page site for a few months.
Switching platforms involves moving your digital assets to a new home. When we handle a WordPress to Webflow migration, we move content and URLs so existing rankings can carry over. We carry over pages, blog posts, images, files, titles, descriptions, schema, forms and tracking. We add a 301 redirect for every changed URL to map the old paths to the new ones. Google recommends server-side permanent redirects, such as 301 or 308, to move from old URLs to new ones while avoiding chains of redirects. After a launch, we check Search Console daily for 30 days to monitor the transition. Google says to expect temporary fluctuation in rankings during a site move while it recrawls and reindexes the site. This process allows us to maintain your SEO structure during the move.
